Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark: a calendar of geo-events to experience the territory with all the senses
18 May 2025
Cultural, relational, and immersive experiences to discover the living ecologies of the landscape.
Within the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark, every place tells a story—made of matter and memory, gestures and landscapes, deep connections between nature, culture, and communities.
To give voice to this complexity, a calendar of geo-events was created: a program of experiences with educational, cultural, and participatory value.
What are Geo-Events?
Geo-events are activities designed to enhance the tangible and intangible heritage of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark, actively involving people.
Hikes, workshops, performances, talks, and artistic installations become narrative and educational tools, capable of creating connections between those who live in the area and those who visit.
The aim is to make the ecologies of the landscape both visible and livable, moving beyond the idea of heritage as something to observe from a distance.

An innovative method: “Mapping the Ecologies”
The planning of the events is based on a solid and original theoretical framework: the “Mappings of the Ecologies” of the Geopark, developed by Prof. Gianluca Burgio in collaboration with Kore University.
This is a narrative and relational model that allows us to read the territory not only through its geography, but through the relationships that inhabit it—environmental, cultural, historical, and symbolic.
To do this, the ecomuseum system identified four thematic axes, true “modes of existence” of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark:
• Extraction: minerals, resources, energy, and labor
• Cultivation: land, food, seeds, biodiversity
• Construction: towns, architecture, infrastructure
• Cosmogonies: myths, memories, worldviews
Each event fits within these axes, offering an ecological and participatory reading of the territory, where every element has value not only in itself, but in the relationships it generates.
A program that is also a network
The geo-event calendar is the result of collaboration with institutions, schools, associations, and local communities: these are not just events, but shared public actions, able to tell the story of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark as a common good and collective space.
The events are spread across the various towns of the Geopark area, following a modular and widespread logic, in dialogue with the territory and its resources, based on the principles of:
• innovation and tradition
• rootedness and openness
• participation and inclusivity
• sustainability and systemic vision
Why join the Geopark’s geo-events
Taking part in a geo-event means:
• discovering your territory from a new perspective
• engaging your senses and mind in authentic, inclusive experiences
• rediscovering the value of landscape as a weave of memory and knowledge
• becoming part of a cultural and relational network
• supporting the UNESCO Geopark as an educational, ecological, and participatory project
PROGRAM
The geo-events calendar of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark is an invitation to experience the territory as a narrative space: a chance to connect with a land made of sounds, silences, shapes, colors, stories, and presences – but also a journey into complexity, where every activity becomes an experience and every experience becomes awareness.
