The Branciforti Ecomuseum in Leonforte hosted the geo-event “Matter in Motion – Workshops Between Earth and Water”, organized by Si.M.Geo – Ecomuseum System of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark and GAL Rocca di Cerere Geopark.
The initiative, designed for local families, offered a full day of hands-on activities focused on the discovery and appreciation of water as an essential resource and natural materials as tools for storytelling, knowledge, and sustainability.

A full program from morning to afternoon
The day began with a sweet breakfast prepared by Consorzio Kore Siciliae, followed by welcoming remarks from the Municipality of Leonforte and the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark.
Then, three rotating workshops were held:
• Water Workshop (ages 8–10): an opportunity to understand the water cycle, its role in the landscape, and its impact on local communities.
• Ceramics Workshop (ages 6–8): focused on working with clay and exploring shapes, to foster creativity and environmental awareness.
• Handmade Paper Workshop (ages 8–10): a hands-on experience to rediscover ancient techniques and reflect on the responsible use of resources.
After a break in the enchanting Giardino delle Ninfe, where participants shared and observed each other’s creations, the program continued in the afternoon with a second session of the workshops.
The day concluded with closing remarks and thanks to the organizers and all participants.
An event centered on education and participation
The workshops were held in the equipped spaces of the Branciforti Ecomuseum, offering an immersive and accessible learning experience.
The event was a strong example of environmental and cultural education, aiming to instill in young people a sense of belonging to their territory and awareness of the importance of protecting natural resources.
