Escape Room and Orienteering among Ancient Grains and Sustainability

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, a new Geo-Event took place in Nissoria, organized by Si.M.Geo. – Ecomuseum System of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark and the GAL Rocca di Cerere Geopark.

The day was designed to combine environmental education, play, and exploration of the agricultural landscape, engaging young participants in a dynamic orienteering experience that wove together nature, culture, and sustainable farming.

An Open-Air Playground
The event began in the afternoon at Villa Lucrezia, the starting point for an orienteering activity that led participants through the town center and surrounding countryside. Equipped with maps, compasses, and clues, the teams faced a true outdoor escape room, overcoming physical challenges and puzzles focused on ancient grains, traditional farming techniques, and food biodiversity.

Through thematic checkpoints and cooperative challenges, the young explorers rediscovered local agricultural knowledge and the value of collaboration, observation, and respect for the land.

A Day of Learning and Local Appreciation
The event centered around agro-food sustainability and the promotion of outdoor physical activity, with the aim of delivering educational content in an engaging and accessible way.
Along the route, participants could also join thematic workshops organized by the Kore Siciliae Consortium, featuring local producers who offered deeper insights into the area’s supply chains and typical products.

The day concluded in the evening with official greetings from the Municipality of Nissoria and the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark, reaffirming a shared commitment to promoting an environmental culture that is deeply rooted and actively shared.
