Valguarnera – Palazzo Prato | July 17, 2025
On Thursday, July 17, Palazzo Prato in Valguarnera hosted the Geo-Event “Discovering Roots: Identity and Migration”, organized as part of the Si.M.Geo – Ecomuseum System of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark project, with the support of the GAL Rocca di Cerere Geopark.
The day began with institutional greetings from the Municipality of Valguarnera and the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark, followed by a guided tour of the museum housed inside the historic Palazzo.

A Theatre Workshop of Memory and Participation
The initiative involved children and young people from the GREST summer program of the Chiesa Madre, in a theatre workshop led by Dario Scarpati, focused on rediscovering the power of stories as tools for collective reflection, remembrance, and connection between past and present.
Through theatrical expression, the participants explored themes of community memory, the mining identity of the area, and the experience of migration—all key to understanding the cultural and social evolution of Valguarnera.
A Collective Expression of Belonging
The workshop culminated in a short theatrical performance developed during the morning, offering the audience an intimate and participatory insight into the relationship between family roots and historical transformations.
The event served as a meaningful opportunity to educate younger generations about local heritage while fostering dialogue between artistic expression, history, and intangible cultural heritage.
