Sport, Nature, and Flavours: Experiences of Wellness and Taste at Lake Nicoletti

16 juin 2025

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, the “Sport, Nature, and Flavours” event was held at the Tre Laghi Nautical Club on Lake Nicoletti, as part of Geopark Week promoted by the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark.

An afternoon dedicated to discovering the local area through sports activities, nature experiences, and tastings, with the goal of promoting a sustainable lifestyle and highlighting the natural, cultural, and agro-food excellence of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark.

Activities for All Ages – Between Water and Trails
Children and teens aged 7 to 12 had the opportunity to participate in canoeing on Lake Nicoletti, while adults and older youths explored the area from a different perspective—an occasion to immerse oneself in the landscape and strengthen the bond between community and environment.

Taste and Food Biodiversity
Participants then gathered for a convivial moment with the “Taste Workshops”, in collaboration with the Kore Siciliae Consortium and the Slow Food Enna Chapter.

The program included:
Institutional greetings from the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark
• A talk by Stefano Rizzo, administrator of Kore Siciliae
• The workshop “Colours on the Plate: Giving New Life to Food Scraps”, led by Fabio Di Francesco, Slow Food regional president
• The presentation of a biscuit made with ancient grains, Piacentinu Ennese PDO ricotta, and Leonforte IGP peach, by Paolo Cancilleri, Kore Siciliae affiliate

The workshops continued with the promotion of Slow Food Presidia such as “pesca nel sacchetto” (peach in the bag) and “fava larga” (broad bean), sparking reflection on the importance of agro-food biodiversity as a valuable territorial resource.

A Bridge Between Wellness, Culture, and Sustainability
“Sport, Nature, and Flavours” embodied a virtuous model of environmental and food education, engaging both adults and children in a multisensory journey through landscape, movement, taste, and local identity—an invitation to experience the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark in an active, conscious, and participatory way.
